Share
As a salon owner who specializes in hair extensions this is probably my most asked question.
So, what's the difference, you ask?! Lets take a look at each; comparing their advantages and disadvantages.
Genius Weft, Volume Weft, Machine Weft & Hand Tied Weft Explained:
Genius Wefts:
Genius Wefts are thinner and more invisible than other wefts, providing better integration with your natural hair. It uses Italian adhesive, ensuring no glue or hair shedding while wearing. They are very comfortable to wear and allow you to customize your clients results by stacking the layers. They can also be trimmed to the desired length.
Features:
- Invisible design: The ultra-thin base seamlessly blends with the scalp, undetectable to
the naked eye.
- Lightweight and comfortable: Single-layer weft reduces pulling, suitable for sensitive
scalps.
-Advantages: Minimal Damage (when installed by a professional). Very Natural looking, easy maintenance, reusable, can be cut and can be layered
-Disadvantages: These wefts are typically priced higher than other wefts.
- Ideal for: Those seeking a natural look during daily activities.
Volume Weft
Volume Weft is made of three layers pressed together, thinner than Machine wefts, with an outer layer stitched in a herringbone pattern for enhanced aesthetics and durability.
Features:
-Ultra-dense hair strands: Each weft contains 2-3 times more hair than regular wefts,
quickly creating volume.
-Customizable placement: Can be concentrated at the crown or parting to cover
sparse areas.
-Advantages: Highly effective for adding volume, suitable for severe hair loss or fine hair.
-Disadvantages: Heavier weight, requires even distribution to avoid pressure on specific
areas.
- Ideal for: Those with thin hair or seeking extreme volume.
Machine Weft
Features:
- Mass-produced: Low cost, affordable.
- Thicker base: Dense hair strands may appear bulky, with average integration.
- Advantages: Economical, quick installation (directly sewn or glued).
- Disadvantages: Less natural, may pull on natural hair with long-term use.
- Ideal for: Those on a budget or needing temporary styling (e.g., cosplay or short-term
events).
Hand Tied Weft
Hand-tied wefts are meticulously crafted by hand, offering a more refined, thinner, and invisible look compared to regular wefts, but they cannot be trimmed.
Features:
- Extremely natural: Soft and elastic base moves with the head, no stiffness.
- Minimal damage: Lightweight, reducing the risk of hair loss.
- Advantages: High comfort, long lifespan, suitable for long-term wear.
- Disadvantages: Expensive.
- Ideal for: Those pursuing quality, with sufficient budget, and needing long-term extensions.
